I need some help here. I’m doing my 4th step, and my emotions are a roller coaster just like when I was drinking. I’m screaming at my kids again, crying for no reason, etc. It’s getting to the point where I want to quit so I can get rid of these emotions, but of course, my sponsor advises against it. Understandably. Is this normal to have a crappy outlook on life while doing the 4th step?? I mean, I knew it was going to be tough, but I didn’t think I was going to go off the deep end. My family is suffering. I’m suffering. Is this normal??

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

My 4th step was tearing me up too. Finally my sponsor said, that we should go back to step 3 and make sure I got it. Giving up your will over what you cannot control is what let’s you be fearless. Your past actions are definitely something you cannot control right?

Absolutely right. Maybe that is it. I do have a hard time turning things over. I’m a control freak. But I am more than willing to try to turn things over. I try every day. I fill my God box with things I’m trying to let go of.

My sponsor wants me to start reading a little bit of my 4th step just to let off some steam. She thinks it will help propel me through until I’m done.
