My advice would be to do what my sponsor suggests that I do when I feel like I am slipping or losing what contact I have with my HP, etc. She suggests that I call her everyday (so, first…get a sponsor, and remember that you help them as much as they help you by calling – so don’t let picking up the phone be an excuse, that you feel like you are “bothering” them), go to as many NA (or AA…or other) meetings as possible in the next at least 30 days, ask for a 1st step in each meeting, and then just listen – for a month. Get on your knees each day – pray for guidance and support – pray for His help that you don’t have to feel like you are alone, because you are not. Talk to your HP in the shower, when driving, when at work, as much as you can – doesn’t have to be in “prayer position”…but at night before you go to bed or in the morning before you start your day, it shows that you are humble, and that is important. After the listening at meetings for 30 days, when you share, share honest – from the heart. The reason for listening is because in the beginning you don’t know anything, if you are new in recovery, and we learn from our pediscessors, hoping to gain knowledge of their strength, hope and experience, so that you can use it in your life in recovery. Obtain a phone list – most meetings have them, and use it to call people when you feel weak, like you might use. If there is no phone list, ask people for the number…9 times out of 10 at least, they will be happy to share it with you. I will pray for you – as I have discovered that there is a lot of power in prayer – even if you don’t have a higher power right now – just believe that you know there is someone/something out there that is higher than you – so you don’t have to feel like you have to control everything. The idea will be to give up that control to your HP, as you ask for guidance on how to live your life each day by His will – not your own – which, for me, is a great relief. Hope this helps a little. Baby steps…one foot in front of the other…one day at a time, and for now, one hour at a time is good.
