This is a question for sponsors who have taken a sponsee through the 9th Step, or for those who have worked the 9th Step.

    Hey family…

The 9th Step tells us: “Made direct ammends to people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

In cases where it has been determined that making a direct ammend would indeed harm the recipient, how have you gone about making (or having a sponsee make) indirect ammends?

Please give examples. Thanks for your time.

I am not sure what an indirect amends is. Apologizing to someone else? Anonymously depositing money in their account for past misdeeds?

It’s when you can’t make direct ammends to somebody. For example, an ex-partner who doesn’t want any contact.

Or perhaps someone you hurt a long time ago and have no idea where they are todday.
