Provide necessary logistics via maps, precisely the location of a community of people seeking recovery in a private setting. Often times, there isn’t one resource that compiles the meeting locations for all groups, thereby making attendance quite difficult and threatening to one’s recovery. Online Gamers Anonymous (OGA) is a 12-step program meant to assist those who are addicted to excessive internet gaming. History of Anonymous Online Gaming
Liz Woolley, a mother whose son was lost to excessive internet gaming, formed Online Gamers Anonymous in 2002. Shawn, the son of Woolley, was a student at Kansas State University when he started playing EverQuest. Woolley was worried about the influence the video game was having on her son’s life and the amount of time he spent playing it. In 2001, after repeated unsuccessful efforts to assist her son quit his addiction, Shawn committed himself.
In response to the loss of her son, Woolley formed Internet Gamers Anonymous to assist others with similar difficulties. The group began as an online forum where individuals could discuss their stories and provide mutual assistance. Nowadays, Internet Gamers Anonymous is a recognized non-profit organization that offers support groups and services to assist people overcome online gaming addiction.
