Drug and Alcohol Treatment Rehabs Vary in Duration by As Much as One Abuser or Addict Varies to Another
A common misconception about drug and alcohol treatment is that treatment itself is a defined period of time. Unlike like detox’s standard 21 days for the drug to be out of a user’s system and thought process, drug and alcohol treatment and rehab has a varying time period for everyone.
More accurate than a defined treatment period is the concept that various stages of treatment combine over an undetermined amount of time: from primary / inpatient treatment through to transitional living arrangements, outpatient treatment, and sober living opportunities, relapse prevention is indeed a large part of continuing / after care, as is group and individual counseling.
Drug and Alcohol Rehabs Are Possible for Abusers, But Treatment is Necessary
Regardless of whether treatment for an individual is a lifelong process or lasts weeks, months, or years, through effective treatment, counseling, and after care, recovery and sobriety – regardless the drug – is possible.
Through treatment, abusers will be able to empathize with other addicts, and equally, they will find help through identifying bad habits, behaviors, and lifestyle choices that maintain a drug- and alcohol-free environment. One of the central goals of drug and alcohol treatment rehabs at treatment centers throughout the US and Canada is to help a recovering abuser identify those behaviors and learn to replace them with positive, drug- and substance-free behaviors.
