Stop the Pain: Find a Drug Rehab Center in California
It might surprise you to learn that prescription drugs are the second most abused type of drugs, ahead of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and other categories. (Only marijuana is used more widely.) The NIH reports that as much as 20 percent of all Americans have abused prescription drugs. In 2000, nearly half of all emergency hospital admissions for drug overdoses were the result of prescription drug abuse.
Several types of prescription drugs are among those most commonly abused. These include painkillers such as Oxycontin and Vicodin, stimulants such as Dexedrine, Adderall or Ritalin, and tranquilizers such as Xanax or Valium, all of which are highly addictive. Abuse of prescription drugs, unlike street drugs, can happen innocently and inadvertently. Anyone who has ever had severe back pain, for instance, can sympathize with a person who uses Vicodin. When the pain is chronic, it’s easy to become addicted without even knowing it.
