Get Help At An Addiction Treatment Center
When you come to realize that you or someone you love has a drug abuse or drug addiction problem this is the start of a process that will lead to healing for everyone in your family. Drug abuse ruins relationships and leads to legal, financial and health problems. Recent statistics show that over 23 million people in the United States need professional treatment for drug addiction or alcoholism. Sadly, only 10 percent of these people receive care at a drug rehab or addiction treatment center. Without help, drug abuse destroys families and destroys lives; but with the right support and treatment, recovery is possible.
Addiction Treatment Is A Necessary Part Of Recovery
Although every rehabilitation program has a different philosophy regarding addiction treatment and care, there are three processes which play a role in almost every drug or alcohol rehab center in the United States: detoxification, counseling and aftercare. These three components help treatment centers address both the psychological and physical addiction to drugs and alcohol.
- Medical Detox. Drug detox and alcohol detox come in two major types: natural and medical. Natural detox has the individual going cold turkey while in the care of medical professionals. A medical team is present to help the individual make it through the withdrawal symptoms that occur during the process. Withdrawal symptoms are not usually life-threatening, but it is important to have trained addiction medicine specialists on hand to help in this process.
- Counseling. Addiction rehabilitation therapy and counseling address the psychological aspect of dependence. These sessions are either private, one-on-one meetings, with a group of other recovering addicts or for members of the immediate family. What all these counseling types have in common is the goal of delving into the individual’s personal history in order to better understand the causes of addiction so that a plan can be put into place to better respond to stressful situations in the future.
- Aftercare. Aftercare refers to a wide variety of programs aimed at helping the individual maintain sobriety after addiction treatment has been completed. Aftercare programs can be as varied as 12-step meetings, addiction therapy at the facility or even time spent at a sober living home.
A Drug Treatment Program Is You Best Option
Choosing to take a step toward a life free from drug addiction can be a challenging endeavor. When a person is ready to take that step, it’s important to know the options that are available in order to make an informed decision. Some drug treatment programs focus primarily on the physical addiction, while others may take a more spiritual approach. There are treatment centers that are specifically for youths, that are gender specific and that allow young children to attend with their families. Finding the drug treatment program that will work best for you will be the best thing you can do for your loved one, so by all means take the time to decide what method of recovery will work best for you.
