Drug and alcohol rehab centers act as a lifeline to those addicted, but you cannot force a cure on an addict any more than you can lead a horse to water and make him drink. The whole thing about a rehabilitation program is that there is treatment, training and an environment conducive to self-education so that the addicted individual is able to recognize the problem, accept its reality and empower him or herself against the pervasive force of the addiction.
Drug and Alcohol Rehab Center Options…
Without therapy and treatment, the addict simply cannot stop. Eventually the lure of the drug is going to activate that individual’s chemical imbalance, and cause the cycle to begin again. Only constant vigilance can gird the addict against the constant threat of backsliding. Drug and alcohol rehab centers prove the therapeutic environment combining medical treatment and a holistic approach dedicated exclusively to training healthy habits.
There is a whole complex of usable life skills which the individual masters while part of a drug and alcohol rehab center. Medical support provides the foundation, often dealing with some underlying chemical imbalance such as depression or bipolar disorder. To counter self-destructive behavior, drug and alcohol rehab centers follow a basic philosophy that combines multiple steps of a program, including therapy and community support as part of the cure. And yet “cure” is not really considered part of the program, because there is no point at which an addict can say “I am no longer an addict.” It is the knowledge that the addict and the addiction is always there, and that the addict can never forget his or her condition that gives the addict the self-awareness to save his or her own life.
