Al-Anon which included Alateen for younger member has been assisting friends and family member of problem drinkers for over 55 years. According to Al-Anon it is estimated that each alcoholic affects the lives of at least four other people… alcoholism is truly a family disease.
What to expect at you first Al-Anon Meeting
- A brief welcome to the group where you may be asked to identify yourself by first name only since Al-Anon is an anonymous organization and your identity is protected.
- A reference to higher power that some may construe to be God, but Al-Anon is a spiritual organization, not a religious organization. Attendees are free to choose a higher power of their own, and are careful to avoid imposing their beliefs on others.
- Al-Anon members that will be there to listen to you about your problems and be glad to talk with you and encourage you to keep returning to meetings
- There are not any dues or fees as Al-Anon is self-supporting through private donation by its members.
