Most people try not to pry too deeply into their co-workers’ personal lives. While we may get along quite well with our co-workers, many of us feel that it is not our place to interfere in a co-worker’s personal matters. But when someone’s drug intervention can be disruptive, but keep in mind that there is more to life than just business. If your co-worker is in serious danger, then you can risk a little workplace tension or a temporary decrease in productivity. Plus, your addicted co-worker is probably hindering productivity as it is, so you might as well do something about it now.
How exactly you go about your workplace drug intervention depends on a few factors. If there are other people in the company who are personally closer to the addict, you might want to talk to them about it before you do anything. Also, find out if there are any company policies governing these matters. For example, maybe the company will cover some of the treatment costs. It can’t hurt to ask.
