Provide necessary logistics via maps, precisely the location of a community of people seeking recovery in a private setting. Often times, there isn’t one resource that compiles the meeting locations for all groups, thereby making attendance quite difficult and threatening to one’s recovery. History of Sex Addicts Anonymous
SAA was founded in 1977 in the United States by a group of recovering sex addicts who were inspired by the principles and practices of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). The founders of SAA recognized that there was a need for a similar program for people struggling with sexual addiction, and they worked to adapt the 12-step model to address the unique challenges of sexual addiction.
Since its founding, SAA has grown into a global organization with groups in more than 40 countries. The program has helped countless individuals overcome their addiction to sex and build healthier relationships with themselves and others.
The 12 Steps of Sex Addicts Anonymous
The 12-step program of SAA is based on the original 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. These steps are a set of guiding principles that help individuals work through the challenges of addiction and find a path to recovery. The steps are as follows:
We admitted we were powerless over our addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable.
We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
We humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
We made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.
We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to sex addicts and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
The 12 steps of SAA are designed to help individuals acknowledge their addiction, take responsibility for their actions, and build a new life free from the destructive patterns of sexual addiction. Through a process of introspection, self-examination, and spiritual growth, members of SAA learn how to live a life of honesty, integrity, and purpose.
